MooJaa, a thai-style BBQ steamboat opened at the increasingly popular Keong Siak Street, an area with a colourful past. It is affectionately known as “my lovely pig” in Thai, a popular slang commonly used by dating couples, teasing each other expanding waistline during their courtship. “MooKaTa” refers to “Pork Skillet”, the special dome shaped grill in the middle of the hotpot. Quality Binchotan Japanese charcoal is used in place of local black charcoal. This greatly enhances the smokey taste of the grilled meat without the undesirable acidic taste.
For those who can’t make up their mind, aim for the 4 different sets. Set Moo ($39.90), Set Gai ($39.90), Set Meat Lover ($55) and Set King Moo ($32+ a buffet on all ala carte items with US Angus beef, kurobuta pork and prawns limited to 1 plate per person) Familiar thai dishes such as papaya salad, prawn cake, phad thai and pineapple rice also made their appearance felt on the menu, but are overshadowed by the star steamboat. A must-order are the fried fish skin ($6) and cheese balls ($8) Dip the grilled meat with any of the 2 yummy special sauces – spicy BBQ annd sweet and sour seafood, made from scratch with 31 different ingredients, involving 6 hours of pain staking non-stop stirring.
I definitely walked out a happy man. MooJaa rocks!
